The film was created by a trio of filmmakers—Tanner Barklow, Jefferson Craig, and Thomas Hughes—and features a cast including Sofia Alvarez as Kris the virgin, Dan Wilcox as JT the jock, Jacob Wolf as Cain the rebel, Ashley Hanna (with vocals by Kitty Brazelton) as Angel the goth, Emma Manion as Justine the slut, and Tom Shoemaker as Marty the nerd. Jim Bolenbaugh (with vocals by Thomas Bogdan) plays The Killer, with additional roles by Ben Pawlik as Leo the janitor, Scott Neagle as head counselor Simon Scuddamore, and Julieanne Smolinski as The Lesbian Trucker.

Camp Blood: The Musical received mostly positive reception. Film Threat gave it four stars, calling it 'a scream in more ways than one.' DVD Talk noted the film lacked 'quality acting, production values, dialogue, or even singing voices' but found those shortcomings 'completely forgivable' by the end. The film won the Golden 2x4 for Best Picture, Best Actor (Jacob Wolf), and Best Song ("It's a Chase (Death Race)") at Lumberyard Media's Horrorfest in 2006, and received the Audience Award at the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival that same year. It was also an official selection at the Chicago Horror Film Festival (2006) and the Bare Bones International Film Festival (2011). The musical numbers include "The Camp Blood Theme," "In Your Arms," "When the Tops Come Off," "It's a Chase (Death Race)," "The Killer's Song," and a reprise of the theme, with an opening title song "Demon of Time" provided by Falconhammer.
