Funny Man is a 1994 British comedy horror film written and directed by Simon Sprackling. The cast includes Christopher Lee, Tim James, Pauline Black, and Benny Young.
In the story, Max Taylor wins the ancestral home of Callum Chance during a poker game. Ignoring Chance’s warning, Max moves in with his family. He spins a wheel of chance—divided into two "win" and two "lose" sections—and it lands on "lose," awakening a demonic creature from the soil. This creature, the Funny Man, is a Mr. Punch-like jester who kills with inventive, gruesome methods and a dark sense of humor. He is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, as in a pantomime.
The Funny Man murders Max’s wife and two children in humorous but brutal ways. The son is killed off-screen after circling a pillar with the Funny Man, who then mimics the boy’s voice to lure the wife to a keyhole before dragging the body away, telling the audience it’s best to “put the little ones down first.” The wife is beaten to death with a club after failing to escape an endless room. The daughter is electrocuted via jumper cables to her head while playing a Game Boy, catching fire.
Meanwhile, Max’s brother Johnny Taylor travels to the mansion with hitchhikers, including a voodoo woman who uses tarot cards to learn of the Funny Man’s awakening. After they arrive, the Funny Man targets them, leading to a chaotic, Scooby-Doo-style rock-and-roll madhouse with bizarre scenes, gruesome kills, and humorous moments.
